There is high speculation that Samajwadi Party President Shri Akhilesh Yadav can be questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for passing 14 mining tenders on a single day during his term as the Mining Minister in 2012-13. While no formal investigation has been conducted yet, the opposition has already started criticizing the BJP government for abuse of power.
Yadav, who is also the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, counterfeited the rumors poetically as he tweeted a picture of his family stating “Duniya Janti hai is Khabar me Hua hai Mera Zikra Kyun, Badniyat hai Jiski Buniyaad us Khabar se Fikar kyu” which translates to:
“The World knows why I have been mentioned in the news, why to worry about news that is based on false facts”
Yadav slammed the Modi government for trying to defame him by planting a seed of doubt in the minds of voters prior to the Lok Sabha elections of 2019. The Modi government has been constantly ridiculed for being fascist and controlling the national agencies for political interests.
Critics suggest that the Modi Government sees the ‘Mahagathbandhan’ as a threat to their run in the coming elections. While it is not easy for any government in power to control the pawns of a government body, it is not impossible either. Yadav clarified that it isn’t the first time that such a probe will be launched against his family as he recalls the disproportionate assets case launched against his father Mulayam Singh Yadav by the Congress government in 2007.
After the Allahabad High Court ordered the CBI to investigate all entities associated with the Illegal Mining scam, the residences of senior IAS officers who had served during the time were raided. An inquiry against Yadav is in connection to the same. To further defend his stance, Yadav said:
“From time to time probes should happen, it helps in updating papers, documentation, and helps in preventing mistakes. All of us are ready to be questioned. Question us asap so that now we can get busy with polls”
Leading up to the 2019 elections, the Samajwadi Party has announced a joint alliance with the Bahujan Samajwadi Party after a joint press conference was conducted by Yadav and BSP supremo Mayawati. With the current turmoil within the CBI, it does not seem likely that a serious inquiry will be conducted, however, its possibility must not be ruled out entirely in the game called ‘Politics’.
